Tour Our New Zoo

Board the Train at the Community Building

Please take a tour of our new Zoo

We propose a sampling of the unique ecologies of the world: a train ride through small but authentic slices of vanishing habitats typical of Asia, North America, South America, the African veldt. and Australia, with representative animals and plants in each environment.

Our dream has the luxury of room. Twenty-four acres of the Zoo's grounds are presently unused. Our plan is not to saturate these acres with animals, but to give a few giraffes a place to canter, a few tiny Key deer a safe haven and still leave enough room for beautiful gardens and spacious picnic areas.

The new plan calls for about 50 new animals to be added to the Zoo over the years, including giraffes, gazelles, bears, baboons, tapirs, koalas, and many birds and reptiles.

Much of the plan is concerned with remodeling and upgrading existing displays. We'll move the lemurs out of their outdated chain-link cages and into replicas of their natural environment. The animals and the visitors will be more comfortable.

As needed funds become available, each project will be undertaken in sequence through the three phases of the Master Plan, as rapidly as we can get them going. If funds to build a specific major project become available, we may be able to construct it in advance of its planned sequence.
