British motorcycle rally, Santa Barbara, Memorial Day

Before the competition started, the emcee announced that Eddie Mulder would participate in the event, but not as a contestant. This way, somebody else will win the trophy. (He has won the event every time.)

Eddie was the national champion for TT dirt track motorcycle racing for many years and he's still a top competitor. He said that he would still kick everybody's asses. He was the only other true racer in attendance, except for a guy whose name I've spaced on now...Joe...he was 67 and had been the national motorcycle racing champion and also had finished 3rd in the Indianapolis 500 three times in the 1950s.

Eddie welcomed Matt and they yakked about various races where they competed against each other, including the race the other week at Willow Springs, and after that the other attendees were agog at Matt's presence.
