My cat Racket died.

Racket died overnight. Stretched out stiff as a board.
Farewell, kitty. 1980-1999.
I'm sure she'll haunt my dreams for years.

Emptied out the litter box and removed the cat feeding area (a sheet of newspaper on the kitchen counter). The place seems unnaturally quiet.
It's affecting me more than I expected.
So. What am I going to do today. Rearrange the apartment for my new catless life? I have two closets, but one of them was Racket's bathroom and I couldn't hang clothes in there because of it.
I really should look in my closets…I've been stuffing junk in there for four years and I no longer know what's in them.
Took a bunch of junk out of Racket's poop closet.
I haven't had a cat die on me since Parsy back in 1971. Twenty eight years ago. So I'm out of practice.
Meanwhile, life goes on.I had to put on some bouncy jazz because the jazz station was playing mournful tunes about loss. I don't need any reinforcement.
Called Mary and yakked for half an hour. Wanted to let her know Racket died. In 1993 when I was living in Pop's basement, Mary would arrive for a visit and Racket would charge upstairs meowing and leap into her arms. Racket never liked anybody else except me and Mary.

Now I'm going to bed, and it will be the first time in 18 years that I didn't have my cat snuggling up with me. It's pretty sad. The house seems empty. I keep thinking I'm seeing Racket out of the corner of my eye.
