1. Advanced Scientific Concepts

This is an exemplar of a site that nobody cares about. There’s no particular thing that ASC is paying attention to in their website and no sharing of information. You can’t find out a single thing about the company from its utterly generic menubar.

The first thing they want you to know is that they are the leaders in whatever it is that they do. They display three products while the headline is about two things.

Their first text block is 235 words at Grade 17, Ease 15 (in the Flesch-Kincaid Readability Index) displayed in one featureless gray block.

In it we learn that their opinion is that Gsf-LIDAR is the optimal choice, it’s a genuine technology, it offers a unique advantage. Their “innovation represents a significant leap forward enabling cutting edge solutions for a wide range of applications. ASC is poised to address the evolving customer needs where precise and intelligent 3D vision is essential for success.”

Aha, “poised.” How long ago was this site made?

Well, first let’s click the LEARN MORE button. We land on the Our Technology page, which is the same look: a gray wall of text. 184 words that are easier to read (Grade 11, Ease 47) but still hard to look at.

Then a list of Technology Features. The headline of each feature is repeated verbatim in the body copy, which contains little else. Two diagrams of Flash Lidar vs Scanning Lidar with bullet points of advantages.

Back to the home page: next is services. They have an innovative service that allows customers to virtually prototype their flash LIDAR setups, but it takes them 64 words, Grade 16, Ease 19, to say it.

Next is four boxes labeled as simulations.  Clicking them opens YouTube videos with no description of what we’re looking at.

Click and you’re taken to a YouTube video showing a 30-second simulation of something with zillions of details moving around and zero explanation, no caption except for the simulation’s title. “ASC Drone Swarm Sim 45deg El Angle”

The four videos have been viewed 334, 288, 709, and 172 times, respectively, with no views for the last two years. These 1,503 visitors left a total of one comment: “What is this?”

Does the company have anything to offer or is the site merely a “we’re here, with aspirations” placeholder?

ASC does not attempt to explain anything about themselves. If they have anything to offer, they’re keeping it to themselves.
