Me and Janet and Jack 50 years ago

The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world's largest one-day celebration of car culture that attracts over 1.7 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars. A bunch of us gathered at Aunt Grace's house to watch the endless parade on Woodward Avenue, but thunderstorms pounded the city all day long and most of us stayed indoors.

 

I hadn't seen my cousin Denny since 1972.

Helen Jackson was frail and confused. "I know you," she told me. "I just can't remember who you are." She died two weeks later.

Lanie's son Neal showed up for a while. He is now a certified Mercedes-Benz mechanic and is doing well.
